Jason Barney Holds off Zimbardi at Brockville to score second PST-Canada win

By Paul T. Harkenrider (Brockville, ONT) |  A packed Brockville Speedway grandstands saw 24 Patriot Sprint Tour cars put on a show as Jason Barney was able to pick up the win over Jared Zimbardi, and Devin Caron, scoring his second PST-Canadian Win of the 2016 season.

Barney started on the pole against Quebec favorite, Steve Poirier where the two both separated themselves from the rest of the field battling for the race lead. Barney would favor the lower side as Poirier would race high for the first 11 laps.

A lap 12 restart after a caution involving a spinning Dylan Westbrook would have Barney still out front but finally on lap 14, Poirier used a power move on the outside of the No. 87* of Barney for the race lead and on lap 15, Poirier was officially scored as the race leader.

One lap later, as the two continued to battle for command of the field, Barney took back the race lead exiting turn two using the low side of the race track, but the second yellow of the event flew as Cory Turner blew an engine that leaked fluid down the entire front stretch and his night was complete.

Poirier was still scored as the race leader as the event went back a lap. While under that same yellow, Poirier all of a sudden exited the track to tend to a left rear flat and would have to go into the work area, Poirier was able to get his tire changed and would have to settle for unfortunate 12th place finish.

Barney inherited the race lead to Devin Caron and the hard charging Jared Zimbardi who had to start ninth after winning the ESE Dash. On the restart, Zimbardi was able to get by the 24 of Caron where the current point leader set his sights on the race leader in Barney.

Zimbardi would be able to pull alongside Barney on lap 20 but lap traffic started to become a factor in the final five laps of the event that allowed Barney to hold off Jared Zimbardi, Devin Caron, Parker Evens and Matt Tanner, who came from 14th.

This would be Barney’s second PST win of the 2016 season, both of which are a apart of the PST-Canadian Championship.

The series now heads to Cornwall Speedway this Sunday (July 17, 2016) as it will be the only appearance on the PST schedule. Be sure to like ‘Patirot Sprint Tour’ on facebook and to follow @PatriotSprints on Instagram and Twitter. You can also log onto patirotsprinttour.com.
