By Paul T. Harkenrider (Brockville, ONT) | It has been another banner year for Jared Zimbardi as the Bradford, PA driver added another win and clinched his second consecutive Patriot Sprint Tour- Canadian Series Championship.
Teenage driver, Paulie Colagiovanni started alongside Lee Ladouceur as the two brought the 23 car field to the green flag. Colagiovanni was able to use the bottom line too clear Ladouceur who slid behind him to run second.
The first caution came out on the second lap when Rick Wilson was slow and off the pace entering turns one and two. Colagiovanni would lead Lee Ladouceur, Ryan Turner, Alex Vigneault, and Jared Zimbardi.
On the restart, Zimbardi was able to advance two more positions getting by Vigneault and Ryan Turner using the middle lane of the speedway before another caution came out which involved Steve Poirier who hit the turn one barrier wall. Also involved in the caution was Jamie Turner, Coleman Gullick and Steven Hutchinson Jr.
Another restart allowed Zimbardi to do a power move off of the first set of turns to cruise by Ladouceur to grab second as “the Juice” then set his sights on race leader Colagiovanni. Another yellow was thrown as Alex Vigneault was slow and off the track past turn three.
Colagiovanni, who was glued to the bottom in the opening laps stayed low allowing Zimbardi to get by running high for the lead off of two. Colagiovanni would contest Zimbardi multiple times but could not reclaim the lead.
Meanwhile, the battle for positions three thru six as Ryan Turner and Ladouceur would battle for the third spot, while Sammy Reakes and Jason Barney, who started 13th would fight for a top five position.
On lap 8, the red flag was displayed for Alex Vigneault & Denny Pebbles who both flipped blocking the entry into turn one. Also involved were Alex Hill, Sean Durand, April Wilson and Steve Hutchinson Jr.
Two more cautions on lap 10 and 16 would delay any drivers from finding a comfortable racing line in the first half of the race. The remaining nine laps would go green as Jared Zimbardi would go onto the cruise for his eighth win with the Patriot Sprint Tour. This is also Zimbardi’s second straight year securing the PST-Canada Series Champion.
Colagiovanni would finish a career best, second place position over Lee Ladouceur who completed the podium.
Jason Barney would have a slow start to his night by missing the redraw and finishing fifth in the ESE Dash, he would bounce back from his 13th position and take home a fourth place spot. Ryan Turner stayed up front all night and completed the top five.
