By Paul T. Harkenrider (Woodhull, NY) | June 11, 2016- Current Patriot Sprint Tour point leader Jared Zimbardi collected his third win of the 2016 season at the Woodhull Raceway over Justin Barger and Steve Collins. This is Zimbardi’s first win at the Woodhull Raceway after 11 years of racing with the Patriot Sprint Tour.
The 19 car field was led to the green flag by Fairport’s Paul Habeck and Cohocton’s Dan Kuhn but it was Steve Collins who would jump out to the lead on lap two from starting third. On lap four however, Jared Zimbardi would take the race lead from Collins as he stared fifth on the grid.
As laps ticked away, Justin Barger, seventh would quickly become a threat for the race lead as lap traffic became a conflict in the second half of the race. The battle for third also heated up between Steve Collins, Paul Habeck and George Suprick. Collins was able to use the bottom line of the track to finally grab the advantage and secure himself as the third place runner and try to track down the two race leaders in Zimbardi and Barger.
Zimbardi, however would use lap traffic to his advantage to keep Barger from making any ground him and as the checkered flag was displayed, it was Zimbardi finally parking it in victory lane for the first time in his career after having struggles in the past at the always tricky 1/3 Mile Woodhull Raceway bull ring.
Barger would have to settle for second, with Steve Collins completing the podium finish. Qualifying heat wins went to Justin Barger, Paul Habeck, and Chuck Hebing. Jordan Thomas would pick up the Evingham Site Excavation Dash win.
With the win, Zimbardi would also pick up the Shuttleworth’s ‘Seals the deal’ racing bonus worth $50.00. Stampede Steakhouse awards the final driver to take the checkered flag after the completion of the A-Main, that award was given to Tyler Graves. Dave Just, was unable to complete his qualifying heat and would have to start 18th in the A-Main. A tenth place finish was worthy enough to pick up the Casey’s Truck Salvage ‘Salvage of the Night’ award which is also worth $50.00.
The Patriot Sprint Tour will continue its busy month of June as the series heads to Outlaw Speedway on Friday, June 17, which is a make-up date from May 6. Then on Saturday, the series will head to Selinsgrove Speedway for the Joe Whitcomb Memorial that pays $2,571 to the winner Saturday, June 18, 2016.
