The Patriot Sprint Tour made their first visit of 2022 to Fonda Speedway this past Saturday for the Earl Halaquist Memorial 30 lap event.
Matt Tanner And Josh Pieniazek would lead the field to the green. Tanner would jump out to a early lead and Danny Varin would creep into the top five by lap two. Lap three comes around and Varin had moved up to 2nd. As the field powered down the backstretch, Varin was able to move by Tanner and take the race lead.
Meanwhile, 14th starting Paulie Colagiovanni was passing cars left and right and had charged up to 8th by lap 10. Varin would reach lap traffic and pulled away with his lead. Pieniazek would get passed for third on lap 12 by Dalton Rombough. Lap 14 saw Varin making slight contact with the Chad Miller 88, but both drivers kept running with Varin continuing his dominance. By lap 16 Paulie Colagiovanni had made it to 6th, charging through the field passing both Brett Wright and Davie Franek.
A lap 24 yellow would strike for Brett Wright with issues on the back stretch, setting up a restart with hard-charging Colagiovanni now up to 4th. When the green came back out, Varin pulled back ahead with the lead.
Meanwhile, Colagiovanni would pass Rombough into turn one on the restart for 3rd. Time would be Colagiovanni’s biggest challenge as he ran out of laps and it was all Danny Varin as he picked up his second straight Patriot Sprint Tour win.
“The car was fast tonight and it’s always a pleasure to get a win on home turf. The crew did a great job setting the car up,” stated an elated Varin In victory lane.
When asked about about track conditions, Varin said “The track was awesome, you could move all over the surface and I was able to get through lap traffic through all lanes on the track.”
Second finishing Matt Tanner said “Fonda has always been a tough track for me, so to finish second to one of the best I’ll take this any night.”
Paulie Colagiovanni would go from 14th to 3rd and he was hoping for more.
“The car was wicked fast, there was lots of room to move around cars and make moves when needed. I’m happy with the podium but I think with a few more laps I would’ve been out front.”
The Patriot Sprint Tour now takes a few weekends off to regroup before the next stop on the Patriot Platinum Tour at Woodhull Raceway on Saturday, July 23. This show is the make-up date for the show that was lost to Mother Nature on May 7.
