By Paul Harkenrider (Vernon, NY) | In what was another career year for Chuck Hebing, his season ended with a $8500 check in virtue of winning his third career A-Verdi Storage Containers PST championship and his first career PST Canada title.
Drivers, crew members, marketing partners and family members gathered at the Vernon Downs Hotel & Casino as the two Mike Emhof Motorsports owned series (Patriot Sprint Tour and CRSA) celebrated their seasons. Jeff Trombley accepted his second consecutive CRSA series title.
Hebing’s banner year included A-Main wins at Albany-Saratoga, Ransomville, Clinton County, Brockville-Ontario, Woodhull, and Ohsweken as well as a number of podium finishes at Outlaw Speedway and BAPS Motor speedway. Hebing only had two DNF’s all season and an average finish of 5.28. His point fund money, Hoosier tire bonus’s, and contingency bonuses added up to $8,500 in championship funds.
He defeated Jordan Thomas who made great strides in his program racing with the tour for the second consecutive season. The 2017 PST newcomer award recipient scored a victory at the Fulton Speedway in early June and then played the consistency game for the remainder of the season. Thomas was also able to pick up the Bonnell’s Rod Shop dash series championship as well.
Kyle Drum was the Patriot Tank Lines hard charger award winner by advancing 39 positions throughout the year. Drum was also awarded the 2018 Sportsmanship award which was voted by the PST officials.
Scott Goodrich came on board with the tour in 2018 after graduating from 305 competition. Goodrich made strides throughout the season including a pair of top tens in the late August swing to Outlaw and Woodhull. Goodrich would be awarded the most improved driver as well as “Patriot of the year” as Goodrich traveled thousands of miles from his Middletown, NY head quarters.
Pete Richardson rounded out the top five in the PST point standings. Richardson was one six drivers who attempted to qualify for every PST sanctioned event. He was also the award winner for ‘Best Appearing Car.’
Steve Glover was the other driver who attempted to qualify for all Patriot Sprint Tour events and he took home a sixth-place finish in the point standings. Completing the top ten were Jared Zimbardi, Paulie Colagiovanni, Josh Azzi and Davie Franek.
Jordan Thomas picked up a couple of other awards in the evening such as the Tough Luck Award and for the second consecutive season, the worst draw award was earned for having an average draw of 35.20.
Jason Hummel and Mark Tychoniewicz would go on to win mechanics of the year as they played in a significant role for the on-track success of Chuck Hebing. As mentioned earlier, Hebing only had two DNF’s all season.
The dedication to motorsports award went to long time PST staff member, Josh Alysworth for his constant punctuality and terrific administrative work for the Patriot Sprint Tour organization.
Joe Verdi, of A-Verdi Storage containers announced his partnership with the tour will go into 2019 and beyond.
PST president, Mike Emhof, closed out the banquet indications that the 2019 schedule is coming together nicely. He then went on to thank to all the marketing partners, staff, drivers, crew members and families for the continued support of the Patriot Sprint Tour.
