Chuck Hebing picks up first Patriot Sprint Tour win of the year at Ransomville Speedway

By Paul T. Harkenrider (Ransomville, NY) | Chuck Hebing, from Ontario New York patiently made his way through the field from his seventh starting spot to take the lead on lap 18 from Ryan Susice to pick up his first Patriot Sprint Tour win of year.

The 19 car field was started by Tommy Wickham and Josh Azzi on the front row where Wickham would immediately grab a huge advantage on the field but on lap two entering the bottom of turn one, he hit an implement tire that ended up spinning him around and parking up on the top side of the speedway.

On the following restart, Josh Azzi would be scored as the race leadert and would lead the next four laps but it was not until Ryan Susice, making his first run in a Sprint Car in 2016 would take the lead from Azzi as they raced down the back stretch and on lap six, Susice would be scored as the race leader on lap seven.

Multiple circuits would click on by where Chuck Hebing was not a factor until the second half of the race and no one would threaten the No. 18 of Susice.

As laps clicked on by, Hebing got hot and would slide himself into the second place spot just before a lap 17 caution came out which involved a right rear flat on the No. 67 of Steve Collins. Collins and his crew were able to change the tire in the allotted 1:15 time limit to remain on the lead lap. Collins would end up finishing 14th.

Susice would lead Hebing, and Steve Glover on the restart but on lap 18, Susice was running a middle line into the corners that would leave just enough room for Hebing to squeak on by and be scored as the race leader on lap 19.

Hebing would then dominate the remaining six laps and pick up the win, his first with the Patriot Sprint Tour in 2016, and his fifth time in his career at Ransomville. Ryan Susice would finish second, followed by Jared Zimbardi, who started 15th, Dane Lorenc and Steve Glover would complete the top five.

Lorenc was also very dominant once again in the Evingham Site Excavation Dash for Cash over Jonathan Preston and Steven Hutchinson Jr. The three qualifying heat wins went to Chuck Hebing, Daryl Ruggles and Ryan Susice.

With the win, Hebing would take home the Shuttleworth’s ‘Seals the Deal’ winner’s bonus worth $50.00. Jared Zimbardi was put on his side in the first lap of his qualifying heat where his crew would quickly get the car back together for the A-Main and come home with a third place finish, they are the Casey’s Truck Salvage ‘Salvage of the Night’ award winner. Jeremy Barnard, of Albion, New York was the Stampede Steakhouse ‘Final Finisher’ as he was the final driver to take the checkered flag. All 19 drivers were able to finish the race and 16 of the 19 competitors finished on the lead lap!
