By Paul Harkenrider (Ohsweken, ONT) | Chuck Hebing picked up his sixth win of the season in convincing fashion after taking the lead on a lap four restart over Alex Hill and Mark Smith in a PST A-Main make up event that was held over from July 20 show that was lost to rain.
Matt Billings and Alex Hill would bring the 24-car field to the green flag with Hill grabbing command early. Fourth starter Hebing would immediately grab second as eighth starter Mack DeMan would slide out to position three.
ON the fourth lap, Mark Smith and Matt Billings were racing for fourth and made contact entering corners three and four.
Billings would end up flipping three times in turn four bringing out the lone red flag of the event.
On the ensuing restart, Hill would leave the top lane available for Hebing and Hebing would go right by Hill down the back stretch.
Hill would continue to contest with Hebing for several laps during the middle of the race but would eventually lose track of the leader as lap cars continued to be an issue.
Dylan Westbrook had to use a provisional but was already up to 12th by lap four and found himself battling for eighth by lap six. He would continue to go toe to toe with Jared Zimbardi but eventually would get by on lap 15.
Mark Smith would continue to search for a racing lane on the speedway and start to battle with Corey Turner for the third position. Smith would get by Turner and start to chase down Alex Hill for the runner up position.
Chuck Hebing however would just run away opening up to nearly a three second lead over the rest of the field. He would go on to lead the remainder of the A-Main and capture his sixth win of the 2018 season. Hebing would also secure his third career series championship with the Patriots, along with the PST Canadian Series title.
Alex Hill would hold on for second from Mark Smith who finished third, and Dylan Westbrook charged from 24th to fourth by getting by Corey Turner on the final lap.
The following night was the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals paying ten-grand to win. Indiana’s Parker Price-Miller scored the victory over Steve Poirier and Mark Smith. Many PST teams were able to get into the most competitive show of the season such as Chuck Hebing, Jordan Thomas, Kyle Drum, and Jared Zimbardi. Jared Zimbardi was the highest finishing Patriot member who took home a 12th place finish.
The final PST Sanctioned event of the season is this Saturday, September 22 for the Third Annual Outlaw Fall Nationals at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, NY. A hefty purse has been put together for the PST teams including $5,000 winning check, as well as $400 to qualify. There will also be a dash Friday night put on by the Outlaw Speedway staff.
