McKean County Event Late Addition to 10th Patriot Season
Rich Vleck, ROCHESTER, NY (April 18, 2012)- The 2012 Patriot Sprint Tour season has already started, but not until now has the schedule been finalized for this historic year.
The 10th season of Patriot Sprint action will now include a trip to McKean County Raceway on July 28, the first time the series has been to East Smethport, PA since 2006. It helps to complete the PST America series which will pay an eye-popping $10,000 to the champion.
With an impressive 41 cars in competition this past Saturday at Fulton, many teams have taken the first step towards the massive pay out; however some of those teams are finding themselves in need of a big bounce back here in the spring. Their next opportunity to make up ground on Steve Poirier and company will be next Friday for the first trip for the PST to Glen Ridge Motorsports Park.
May will feature some traditional events, including the Insinger Spring Sprint Nationals at Black Rock Speedway held in collaboration with the United Racing Company. Two weeks later, the Patriots return to the high banks of Woodhull, followed by Memorial Weekend events at Stateline and Eriez to round out the month.
Also in May will be the first CanAm Sprint Car Challenge at Autodrome Granby. This two-day event will kick off the new PST Canada series, which will pay $5,000 to the point champion. The first full point races for that series will be in June at Ohsweken and South Buxton for the first leg of the Northern Summer Nationals Series.
The Patriots will support the Auto Racers for Kids Charity Race at Mercer Raceway Park in June before returning their in September. The second race at Black Rock will also be contested in May.
Three big weekends of racing are set up for July, starting off with a swing north to Brockville and Cornwall, followed by a trip south to Clinton County and Woodhull for the Sprint Xpress Challenge Weekend. The busy month will conclude with a return to Ransomville coupled with the McKean County race the following night.
The traditional August event at Black Rock returns, this year paying $4,000-to-win in the A-Verdi Sprint Championship. This race, along with the July Ransomville race, will also host the Original Pizza Logs Four Laps of Fame Super Dashes, paying $500 each to win.
The final three events of August will be held north of the border with return trips to Brockville, Ohsweken and South Buxton.
On Labor Day Weekend, the PST America Champion will be declared with a trip west to Mercer and Eriez. This will be the first full-point race at Mercer since 2005. When this weekend is over, one driver will have amassed $10,000 as champion.
Traditional Fall events round out the 2012 scheduling, including the Eighth Annual Canadian Sprint Car Nationals September 13-15, this year paying $12,000 to win. The final race on the calendar will once again by the Northeast Fall Nationals show at Brockville Ontario Speedway; this year though the race will decide who will be the champion of PST Canada and claim the $5,000 payout.
This schedule looks good, but it would not be exciting without the drivers and teams that will be part of the PST in 2012. The great group of stars and cars put on a terrific performance this past Saturday and figure to do so once again at a track near you. For more information, visit www.PatriotSprintTour.com.
