Patriot Sprint Tour Feature at Mercer Lost to Rain

Rich Vleck, MERCER, PA, (September 1, 2012)- The remnants of Hurricane Issac was threatening much of Western Pennsylvania throughout Saturday Afternoon but had spared Mercer Raceway Park, that is until the Patriot Sprints took to the track for the feature.

The first point race for the Patriot Sprint Tour at Mercer Raceway Park since 2005 was lost after a pop-up shower jumped up and hit the 3/8-mile oval hard.  After 30 minutes of precipitation, the decision was made to scrap the remainder of the event.

In heat race competition, George Suprick, Scott Kreutter and Jamie Collard dominated their respective heat races.  Tim Kelly made an impressive pass on the final lap of the Original Pizza Logs Four Laps of Fame to win that event for the first time this year.

Local competitor Adam Anderson had drawn the pole for the event, with Tommy Wickham set to start on the outside of the front row in his first trip to Mercer.

A total of 21 Patriot Sprints were in competition, with Don Adamczyk that was unable to start the would-be feature after he suffered his second-straight engine failure, this time while leading the second heat race.  When Adamczyk’s No. 21 checked up, he collected Gary Edwards, a 360 winner at Mercer in 1997, who did a soft rollover in his No. 57e.
