Rich Vleck, ROCHESTER, NY (August 21, 2012)- The 2012 Patriot Sprint Tour Season is steamrolling to a conclusion, but included in the final quarter of the season will be a pair of the races at one of the most competitive ovals on the circuit.
This Saturday, August 25, the Brockville Ontario Speedway plays host to the Patriot Sprint Tour once again for the second of three visits as part of the 2012 PST Canada Series. The championship picture is taking shape, but it will come down to what takes place at “The BOS” that will ultimately determine the outcome.
Justin Barger, of Montrose, NY, holds a solid point lead in the Inaugural PST Canada Series. Barger was fifth at Brockville in July and was a winner there in 2006 and 2008. He leads Michigan’s Dain Naida in the standings, who finished 10th in his first start at Brockville last month when Jamie Collard, his teammate, went to Victory Lane. Mitch Brown, of Brantford, Ont., is fourth and final driver in the standings with a realistic chance at the $5,000-to-win Championship.
Bryan Howland, a four-time PST Champion, was a winner at Brockville in 2009. Howland, the current PST America point leader. Defending PST Champion Jared Zimbardi has three wins at “The BOS” and was third there last month.
Scott Kreutter, who won at McKean County last month has been on a hot streak of late and looks to build off his fourth-place result there last month. Other Americans that could cross the border this weekend include Brandan Warner, Jason Barney, Dave Wickham, leading rookie Steve Hutchinson Jr. and Dylan Swiernik, among others.
The local fans are always enthralled by the appearance of their favorites such as Rick and April Wilson, Paul Pekkonen, Lee Ladouceur and Chris Jones, who were unable to compete there last month. Cornwall’s Devin Caron was the runner-up last month. Also look out for Tyler Rand, Brad Lodge and others.
Western Ontario is also likely to be well-represented this weekend with more than a half-dozen teams expected from that region. Glenn Styres, Keith Dempster and Chris Durand are among the other drivers who will be heading east on Saturday.
Racing action on Saturday gets started at 7:00. For more information visit www.PatriotSprintTour.com and don’t forget to follow www.Facebook.com/PatriotSprintTour and/or www.Twitter.com/PatriotSprints all weekend for updates.
