2011 Sprint Challenge Series Events at Black Rock and Williams Grove Established
Race teams and fans are sure to benefit from the creation of the 2011 Sprint Challenge Series.
In a collaborative effort between the Patriot Sprint Tour (PST) and the United Racing Company (URC), a pair of high-paying events have been created early in the 2011 season to bring race teams to venues either never seen before or not seen in some time.
Each sprint car sanctioning body will “host” the event in their home state, with the PST taking the lead for the first challenge race on Saturday, May 7 at Black Rock Speedway in Dundee, NY.
The Spring Sprint Nationals will pay $2,500 to the winner and at least $275 to all 24 starters. The event will incorporate passing points for qualifying. This will be the season opener for the Patriots and the third event of the season for URC.
This will be the first time that URC will sanction an event at the 4/10-mile oval since 2006, when 7-time URC Champion Curt Michael took the win. This will be the first trip back to Dundee for Michael, while it will be the inaugural visit for 2009 Champ J.J. Grasso.
One month later, the URC will host the PST on Friday, June 3 at the Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, PA. MACH 1 Chassis will sponsor the event at the historic ½-mile, paying $3,000-to-win, with time trials on the agenda for qualifying.
This will be the first trip to Williams Grove for the PST, as well as a number of their teams, including 4-time Patriot Champion Bryan Howland. Jared Zimbardi, who has finished runner-up in the standings the last four seasons, has made just limited appearances at “The Grove”.
“This is an exciting development for the 2011 Patriot Sprint Tour Schedule,” noted PST President Mike Emhof. “I feel it is important to work with other sanctioning bodies to help foster sprint car racing as a whole.”
"John, Cher and I greatly value anytime we can bring a new and exciting event to the URC schedule and we are thrilled to bring a challenge race to our turf", said Bob Miller, URC Managing Member along with John and Cher Zimmerman.
In addition to the Black Rock and Williams Grove events, the PST and URC will work together, along with the Empire Super Sprints, at Rolling Wheels Raceway on July 22 and 23 in the $3,000-to-win “The Fast Track” Sprint Car Summer Shootout. The Patriots will also show support for the $5,000-to-win Rislone Sprint Car Nationals, a major URC event at Williams Grove on August 5.
