Northern Summer Nationals Finale Rained Out at South Buxton
Rich Vleck, MERLIN, Ont. (August 20, 2011)- For the eighth time this season, an event sanctioned by the Patriot Sprint Tour has been halted by rain.
On Saturday Night at South Buxton Raceway, just after hot laps were completed, the skies opened up and flooded the grounds, forcing speedway officials to cancel the racing program for the evening. Being as late as it is in the season, no make-up date is possible.
A total of 24 cars were in the pits for the $3,000-to-win finale to the Northern Summer Nationals Series. Included were five regular Patriot Sprint Tour Competitors, but one of them was not Bryan Howland, who lead the Northern Summer Nationals points. Howland had to head home after Friday Night for a family matter but because of the cancellation however, the four-time PST champion has been named Northern Summer Nationals Champion and has earned a guaranteed starting spot in the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals A-Main.
Racing action for the Patriot Sprint Tour continues next weekend once again in Canada with a complete show at Brockville Ontario Speedway on Saturday followed by the completion of a rained-delayed event at Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday.
